Start your first semester connected and prepared
New Student Orientation is the main welcome event for students beginning at UAA's Anchorage Campus. The morning is designed to answer practical questions, introduce the people and services that support students, and make a large campus feel easier to navigate.
Students will begin together in the Student Union before moving into college and interest-based sessions. Family members and guests can attend a parallel information session focused on supporting student independence, understanding university communication, and finding the right office when questions come up.
What you will accomplish
- Check in, receive orientation materials, and confirm your next required steps.
- Meet representatives from your college, academic advising, financial aid, and student services.
- Learn how to use UAOnline, Blackboard, student email, campus Wi-Fi, and the UAA mobile tools.
- Find classrooms, parking areas, dining, recreation, the library, and key student service offices.
- Connect with student organizations, peer mentors, and other students beginning this semester.
Before you arrive: Bring a photo ID, your UA username, and a phone or laptop that can connect to campus Wi-Fi. Complete your placement and advising steps beforehand when possible.
Who should attend
Orientation is intended for first-time freshmen, transfer students, returning students who are new to the Anchorage Campus, and family members or supporters attending with them. Students beginning fully online are welcome to join the livestream and virtual help sessions.

2921 Spirit Way, Anchorage, AK 99508The Student Union entrance, event rooms, and primary tour route are wheelchair accessible. Live captioning and a quiet room will be available. Request an accommodation by August 7.
Free event parking is available in the East Campus Central Lot and Library Lot. Follow orientation signs and allow additional time for morning traffic. People using People Mover can exit at the Providence Drive campus stop.
Registered remote participants will receive a livestream link and access instructions by email on August 13. Virtual help rooms will remain open until 2 p.m. for advising and technology questions.
A light lunch and refreshments are provided. Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-aware options will be available. Students may bring up to two guests; include them during registration so catering and seating can be planned.
